NEW POETRY- A Neo Soul Moment

SO: lately I've been on a Neo Soul music high. And it's been great. Like I posted earlier, I started a poem and then got crazy busy so I couldn't finish it. Truth is, I also didn't know HOW to finish it so I left it here for a while until one day (today) while bumping the Neo Soul Songza playlist and my friend's house (SHOUT OUT TO SONGZA THE GREATEST APP EVER) it just hit me. So i grabbed my paper and pen and wrote the rest of this. ENJOY <3 stay blessed!

Can I make this personal?
I mean, really personal.
Can I show you my inner most thoughts at their rawest form?
Are you willing to expose yourself to what lies beneath all of this? My spirit. The rawest form in which I exist.
Can you hear it?
My heart slowly beating in this rhythmic morse code
Gently calling you to decifer the secrets that I posses
Are you willing to get to know me?

Are you willing to step into my labyrinth of thoughts,
And completely lose yourself in my essence,
Every morning that we wake up and you breathe me in deeply
Can we go there?
When me and you were the only ones in the garden of Eden
Back in time when a kiss was brand new
Will you?
Are you willing to let your heart synchronize with mine so even when we aren't together you can feel it beating to the same rhythm as yours.

Are you willing to know my ins and outs, in and out
Weaving yourself into the very fibres my being
So that I am no longer just me but, a hybrid version I call
"We"
Are you willing to get to know me?
Just for a minute, imagine this world and lets act like we're the only ones in it
Have me any way you want-no one is looking.
I'm giving you the chance to have my heart
The one thing so closely linked to my mind
Sow your seed by impregnating my thoughts
And my body will follow the same pattern of love.
But that's only if you're willing...
Willing to get to know me.

POEM IN THE MAKING

My mom always complains that I take ridiculously long showers... well... I do. But I promise, it's all for a good reason! I come up with ideas for poems while in the shower! Lately I haven't been writing much because it's exam season however, I came up with a few lines while goofing around in the shower and blasting music the other day so I want to share them. This is a sign of things to come, when it's completed, I will post the entire thing, but for now... this is the little bit that I got!

Can I make this personal?
I mean, really personal.
Can I show you my inner most thoughts at their rawest form?
Are you willing to expose yourself to what lies beneath all of this? My spirit.
The rawest for in which I exist. Can you hear it?
My heart slowly beating in this rhythmic Morse code calling out for you to crack it.
Unlocking the secrets that I posses.
Are you willing?

Yeah I know, it's not long at all but hey, it's SOMETHING.
And I'm hoping that it becomes something amazing. If I accomplish all that I planned out today, I will work on this bad boy!

the end is near

yes... the end of this semester!

Hello poetry lovers. I just wanted to check up and say hello. I don't have anything new to share as of yet because school as become brutal beyond all belief. Hopefully when exams are done, and I'm sitting on a beach in Cuba, I will be able to relax and make something good enough to share with you all!

stay blessed!

cheers.

shit like this has GOT to stop.

So someone on Facebook decided to post such an IDIOTIC status update. As I do when most things upset me... I decided to rant on Tumblr. lol here's what I posted. I want to share this because MERCY. Things like this upset me so much.

here's my rant:

Okay. SO in Toronto a war memorial was vandalized. Someone wrote “Canada will Burn, Praise Allah”
Of course people are upset. I’m upset. BUT THIS COMMENT RIGHT HERE pissed me the HELL OFF.
How can one person be so dismissive and inconsiderate towards Muslims because of the act of ONE individual who most likely doesn’t share the same views of many islamic people? That’s as ignorant as saying all Muslim people are terrorists because of Osama…
NO. Osama is a terrorist.
Muslim people are just Muslim.
To sit there and ever so confidently type out that Allah is the devil, you must honestly have an issue with yourself. ONLY IGNORANT PEOPLE CRITICIZE ISLAM BECAUSE THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT. The beauty of that religion is unfathomable in many ways, how DARE you look down on it thinking that your Christian perspectives are better just because they are the north american norm?
Listen. I’m a Christian. I love jesus, but who the fuck am I to say to someone that their God  is the equivalent to the entity I despise and blame for all the issues in the world? Who am I to tell them that their God is less than mine? i am NOBODY. And therefore I will not express those views. Simply for the reason that they are insane and so hurtful.
UGH I AM JUST SO UPSET.
One God. Many ways to get to Him. Don’t be upset and a different person’s path when our destination is the same. Even God said that he has “sheep in different pastures” Not every one who isn’t Christian will go to hell and trust me, not everyone who calls themselves a Christian will go to heaven. So those Muslims you look down on, believe me, they’ll probably reach heaven before you do. They are probably doing more to serve God than you are.
Your hate is JUST as bad as that one idiot’s vandalism.
okay… I can breathe now.

Nas & Damian Marley - Patience

HELLO folks. Okay, so i actually just want to share with you guys my favourite song of all time. This right here, is honestly the greatest thing I've ever stumbled upon. The lyrics are ingenious. It's from the album Distant Relatives which is all together a masterpiece. It came out a couple of years ago and not too many people know of it, but I encourage everyone to listen to it, download it, BUY it cause it's honestly just that awesome.

This song in particular, I want everyone to pay special attention to the words. It's the message that really gets me.

words of wisdom

So i fell across this poem while doing one of my daily devotions and i felt like i should share it. it had me thinking.

IF...

If locked in my chamber of unchallenged fears
I wait for the dawn, with curtains drawn
If alone in that darkness I cry to be free
Yet claim that my captor has swallowed the key
If i cling to my memories of living only the past
And doubting my future, I give up at last
If in the midst of this battle I turn and retreat
blind to my victory and accepting defeat
Then Christ has died needlessly
And peace is a fantasy
Then hope is a wounded word
"The coming King" is put a phrase I've heard....
And all the world is lost

RE WRITE

Hey. so I stumbled across an old poem I did (I think it's in my older arts page) and I decided to fix it up a bit. work in progress, because honestly, the original version was horrible LOL.

Oh Canada, Our home and native land…
Native? Exaggerated terms that are a little creative
We are immigrants brought by the people who entered land to invade it
Thinking that European culture would make good and emancipate it
When all it really, did was enslave it.
Forcefully assimilated the Natives
Stole the peace they created
Returned their kindness with hatred
And called it progress.
True patriot love, in all thy sons command...
Using the term love loosely, lying profusely
Two-faced giants, morally non compliant
Euphemizing history in hopes that they can hide it
Why fight? Just re write. Forget and start fresh.
So we offer help in hopes to redeem ourselves, and prove we’re the best
And all of a sudden we are Peace Keepers…
With Glowing hearts, we see the rise...
But have we really risen?
So many innocents in prison. Flawed judicial systems
That keeps the wealthy men winning?
The True North strong and free...
Slaves to society, for what’s a chain if it’s called by a different name?
Capitalism tied around our necks, consumerism anchoring our feet
Western greed that prevents struggling families to eat
While the rich get richer, and the poor live in frustration
It’s all mental slavery, just minus the plantation.
From far and wide, Oh Canada! We stand on guard for thee
God keep our land...
God bless us in all our wrong doings
The materials we’re pursuing
The people we’ve brought unto ruin
Because to build a nation, we must destroy a people
History proves to that progress comes from stepping over the feeble
Glorious and Free...
Smile, and salute.
This is patriotism. This is progress. This is Canada.
Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee!
Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee!

HERE'S THE PLAN:

SO I HAVE AN IDEA: I'm looking into making a compilation of my poetry, putting it all together, making a book and getting a copyright for my work. (I've been told that it's about time I make it official) With that said, with the creation of an eBook, I'm thinking to to print off hard copies and sell them to help pay for my trip to Ghana and also to fundraise for DIVOG.org. so at some point in time.. i will be HASSLING EVERYONE to buy my book and support a good cause! Look out for The Visible Minority Speaks.

Update!

Hey poetry world!
So, I don't have anything new to share but I honestly felt like coming on and updating everyone with my life.
So here's a couple things.

I've been approved to go to Africa in February! I'm excited! So I'm going to start figuring out how to form a poetry workshop for the kids down there. This is truly an experience I am glad to be a par of and I thank God entirely.

Secondly, that poem I wrote for the wedding..well I did it yesterday and honestly it was such a blessing! I felt good knowing that I made the bride and groom happy. I know they wanted it to be a surprise so at the wedding rehearsals, they didn't even let me say it lol. So the look their faces are priceless. So with that note, the biggest shout out to Paul and La-Dana on their marriage!

A reminder: R.I.S.E poetry happens EVERY monday at the STC youth center at 6. Join the Facebook group for updates! I try to make it there when I can but right now school is killing me so I haven't been. I'm hoping that next week I can work it out and go!

Last thing: I might be creating an eBook of all my poetry. Everything is in the process of getting a copyright! WOOO. I'm hoping to be able to publish my book of poetry, make a couple copies and sell them to help raise funds for my Africa trip. I'll keep the world updated on all of that at a later date.

AS FOR NOW.
stay blessed.
Be you. be beYOUtiful

NEW POEM- I'm Cool Like That. (Lyrics at the bottom)

my mind is in the present but my flow is in the 90s living life ahead like I was born with eyes behind me so whatever they do, man i kinda did it first so wrap up your raps i got a box for the hearse as far as i'm concerned man your shit is all dead like Lauryn hill said baby come and light my fire I'm sick of all your flows everything you drop is tired the industries came, and they made our music worse greed fucked blacks and gave birth to a curse And I'm hurting Watching em flirting with aphorisms that ain't certain Proverbial curtains over their minds so they ain't learning Yearning for lifestyles that don't last Yeah it might come quick But it's faster when it pass You wanna chill like that? Nah, it's ill like that And when I say ill, yo I really mean sick You gotta check your brain with a psychiatrist Cause your shit ain't tight Your flow ain't right And your rhymes are poisonous like kryptonite Sold as legal products inciting illegal acts So they they bag and tag it and serve this rap like it's crack But I'm cool like that… man I'm cool like that I'm chill like that I'm ill like that I keep it real like that When I'm feeling apprehensive I get really pensive I don't mean to get offensive But new music is crap With the morals it's lacking My heart is attacking Talking about big booties and this money to stack And I fall back Watching young kids turn into fiends and filthy addicts Addicted to the beats making them somehow wanna have it Chanting out lies that pull em in like they magnets So they bag it and tag it and push their product on the streets Musical slavery covered up with the beats Trapping the minds of every child it meets Breeding a generation of idiots and freaks who do it all when the time's right just to get that lime life So I preach. So I preach I'm cool like that..
