General Thoughts

Oh man, so i was scrolling through "My Art" page and I couldn't help but laugh at some things. Those poems are old, The newer ones I just post for you guys but oh man. It's funny to look back on these things. I've grown so much as a writer I would like to think.

Call em Out

So I was asked to write a poem for church. And in respects to the holiday season, this is what I came up with. It's light humoured and more conversational but it gets the point across !  Oh, and it's a true story!

You know, children can always tell when somethings just doesn't make sense
Cause children are always the most honest
Even though they haven't been here the longest, they can always call you on it.
So by the age of 5 i realized that- some people needed calling out.
It was the christmas season. I was in grade one making holiday crafts in class
Drawing doodles and gluing noodles to pieces of construction paper
That my parents will only pretend to like- C'mon. We know you do it.
So some little girl started to talk about santa claus and how she can't wait for him to come
She'd been a very good girl this year with all the great things that she's done.
Now... remember what I said about children being honest?
Well, that's how I work into the story.
I accidentally ruined her image of santa and said,
"Little girl. Santa ain't real. Santa is your mom and dad buying your presents and your christmas meal.
See those people putting money in your university funds? Yeah they're the ones...."
And to this day I have never seen a kid cry so fast and so horribly in my life.
And the only thing I could think of at that moment was
"Well dang. Wait until she finds out about the easter bunny"
But the situation wasn't funny cause fast forward to the end of the day at my detention
Constantly bickering at my teacher cause I wasn't through
I couldn't believe I was getting in trouble for telling the truth!
My parents taught me that christmas was about Jesus's birth
I learned how his coming was the beginning of hope on earth
And I swear I ain't lying cause I saw my momma read it from His Word
So... why am I sitting here?
Last week little Timmy told me that God ain't real
And no one stopped to figure how that made me feel
And... he isn't sitting here...
Why are we encouraging our children to lose the main focus
Buying them dozens of presents and magical hocus pocus
The recognition of Christ shouldn't only happen once a season
When he's the reason why your breathing...
As a kid I knew that you could give me a billion gifts but I only needed one.
And I accepted it from God when he gave me his son
See it's funny at that age I knew what things were all about
That's why by the age of 5 I realized,
Somethings needed to be called out.
