RE WRITE

Hey. so I stumbled across an old poem I did (I think it's in my older arts page) and I decided to fix it up a bit. work in progress, because honestly, the original version was horrible LOL.

Oh Canada, Our home and native land…
Native? Exaggerated terms that are a little creative
We are immigrants brought by the people who entered land to invade it
Thinking that European culture would make good and emancipate it
When all it really, did was enslave it.
Forcefully assimilated the Natives
Stole the peace they created
Returned their kindness with hatred
And called it progress.
True patriot love, in all thy sons command...
Using the term love loosely, lying profusely
Two-faced giants, morally non compliant
Euphemizing history in hopes that they can hide it
Why fight? Just re write. Forget and start fresh.
So we offer help in hopes to redeem ourselves, and prove we’re the best
And all of a sudden we are Peace Keepers…
With Glowing hearts, we see the rise...
But have we really risen?
So many innocents in prison. Flawed judicial systems
That keeps the wealthy men winning?
The True North strong and free...
Slaves to society, for what’s a chain if it’s called by a different name?
Capitalism tied around our necks, consumerism anchoring our feet
Western greed that prevents struggling families to eat
While the rich get richer, and the poor live in frustration
It’s all mental slavery, just minus the plantation.
From far and wide, Oh Canada! We stand on guard for thee
God keep our land...
God bless us in all our wrong doings
The materials we’re pursuing
The people we’ve brought unto ruin
Because to build a nation, we must destroy a people
History proves to that progress comes from stepping over the feeble
Glorious and Free...
Smile, and salute.
This is patriotism. This is progress. This is Canada.
Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee!
Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee!

HERE'S THE PLAN:

SO I HAVE AN IDEA: I'm looking into making a compilation of my poetry, putting it all together, making a book and getting a copyright for my work. (I've been told that it's about time I make it official) With that said, with the creation of an eBook, I'm thinking to to print off hard copies and sell them to help pay for my trip to Ghana and also to fundraise for DIVOG.org. so at some point in time.. i will be HASSLING EVERYONE to buy my book and support a good cause! Look out for The Visible Minority Speaks.

Update!

Hey poetry world!
So, I don't have anything new to share but I honestly felt like coming on and updating everyone with my life.
So here's a couple things.

I've been approved to go to Africa in February! I'm excited! So I'm going to start figuring out how to form a poetry workshop for the kids down there. This is truly an experience I am glad to be a par of and I thank God entirely.

Secondly, that poem I wrote for the wedding..well I did it yesterday and honestly it was such a blessing! I felt good knowing that I made the bride and groom happy. I know they wanted it to be a surprise so at the wedding rehearsals, they didn't even let me say it lol. So the look their faces are priceless. So with that note, the biggest shout out to Paul and La-Dana on their marriage!

A reminder: R.I.S.E poetry happens EVERY monday at the STC youth center at 6. Join the Facebook group for updates! I try to make it there when I can but right now school is killing me so I haven't been. I'm hoping that next week I can work it out and go!

Last thing: I might be creating an eBook of all my poetry. Everything is in the process of getting a copyright! WOOO. I'm hoping to be able to publish my book of poetry, make a couple copies and sell them to help raise funds for my Africa trip. I'll keep the world updated on all of that at a later date.

AS FOR NOW.
stay blessed.
Be you. be beYOUtiful

NEW POEM- I'm Cool Like That. (Lyrics at the bottom)

my mind is in the present but my flow is in the 90s living life ahead like I was born with eyes behind me so whatever they do, man i kinda did it first so wrap up your raps i got a box for the hearse as far as i'm concerned man your shit is all dead like Lauryn hill said baby come and light my fire I'm sick of all your flows everything you drop is tired the industries came, and they made our music worse greed fucked blacks and gave birth to a curse And I'm hurting Watching em flirting with aphorisms that ain't certain Proverbial curtains over their minds so they ain't learning Yearning for lifestyles that don't last Yeah it might come quick But it's faster when it pass You wanna chill like that? Nah, it's ill like that And when I say ill, yo I really mean sick You gotta check your brain with a psychiatrist Cause your shit ain't tight Your flow ain't right And your rhymes are poisonous like kryptonite Sold as legal products inciting illegal acts So they they bag and tag it and serve this rap like it's crack But I'm cool like that… man I'm cool like that I'm chill like that I'm ill like that I keep it real like that When I'm feeling apprehensive I get really pensive I don't mean to get offensive But new music is crap With the morals it's lacking My heart is attacking Talking about big booties and this money to stack And I fall back Watching young kids turn into fiends and filthy addicts Addicted to the beats making them somehow wanna have it Chanting out lies that pull em in like they magnets So they bag it and tag it and push their product on the streets Musical slavery covered up with the beats Trapping the minds of every child it meets Breeding a generation of idiots and freaks who do it all when the time's right just to get that lime life So I preach. So I preach I'm cool like that..
